November 3, 2007 Noche Tropical’s fourth silent auction party, held on Saturday, November 3 at the Albany Community Center was a big success, raising over $33,000 for SchoolCARE. About two hundred guests- parents and other school supporters- ate fabulous snacks from Cesar and downtown restaurants, enjoyed beer from The Pub and wine from other donors, and mingled amidst the beautiful flowers and palms decorated with twinkling lights. Bidding on the hundreds of silent auction items was fast and furious as each auction area closed, and many people walked away with great ‘loot’: cabin stays, beautiful jewelry, an Ifshin violin, art and music lessons, toys, tickets to future parties, and many creative items and consulting services. Music was provided by the Brazil-inflected jazz trio of Dean Muench, bass, Tom Weimer, guitar and Bruce Felter, drums. Many artists from the Albany community donated original artwork, which was on display at the Community Center "Noche Tropical Art Exhibit" for six weeks prior to the event, and the art bidding was some of the most competitive of the night, raising approximately $4000 of the total. Bill Dane, Susan Adame, Elisa Klevin, Kanna Aoki, Michael Shemchuk and Grace Munakata were among the many well-established artists who contributed to the exhibit. Amy St. George, Caren Rabin, Carol Newborg, Cathy Goodman, Cynthia Mah, Edith Morrow, Hao Quinn, Joyce Kessler, Karen Buttwinick, Meiling Lincoff, Sandy Endo, Sheila Erickson, and Sheryl Black were on the organizing committee and were among the many, many volunteers who made the night happen. In-Kind Donations were provided by the following local businesses: Copy Express, Country Cheese Coffee Market, Eunice Gourmet, Flower Power, Flowerland Nursery, La Vie en Rose, Mangani Poultry, Monterey Foods, Oakland Museum Café, Peets, Safeway and Westbrae Nursery.
June 30, 2007 For the 7th year, the community of Albany continues its commitment to enhance the quality of education in Albany. The generosity of the parents, businesses, and residents of Albany and beyond allows SchoolCARE to fund educational support services and teachers that otherwise could not be offered to Albany students. SchoolCARE volunteers have worked hard to raise almost $300,000 to provide these teachers and services for the 2007-08 school year, maintaining the strong tradition of community support. Together, parents, teachers, and administrators at all Albany schools have identified their highest priorities for funding. As a result of this collaboration, SchoolCARE is pleased to be able to provide the following educational support services and staffing for the 2007-2008 school year, totaling over the equivalent of five full time teaching positions plus additional service support. November 1, 2006 For the 6th year, the community of Albany continues its commitment to enhance the quality of education in Albany. The generosity of the parents, businesses, and residents of Albany and beyond allows SchoolCARE to fund electives and student services that otherwise could not be offered to Albany students. SchoolCARE volunteers have worked hard to raise almost $300,000 benefiting studnts for the 2006-07 school year, maintaining the level of community support even with the passage of the new parcel tax. Parents, teachers, and administrators at all Albany schools have worked for many months with SchoolCARE volunteers to identify the highest priorities for spending this “extra” money. Assistant Superintendents have aided in identifying the employees and cost of these services. We are grateful to all who have helped in this process. So, with the help of the entire Albany school community, SchoolCARE is pleased to be able to provide the following educational support services and staffing for the coming 2006-2007 school year. Elementary Schools: Albany Middle School: Albany High School: MacGregor High School: Thank you from the SchoolCARE board, on behalf of the many volunteers and donors who continue to support excellence and innovation for all students in Albany schools.
June 1, 2006 By the Numbers As of June 1, SchoolCARE has over $220,000 available to fund teaching positions and student services for the coming 2006-07 school year. A good start – but still short of our $300,000 level of support for the current 2005-06 school year. Contributions through mid-July will help ensure that reading specialists, aides, counseling services, electives and other essentials are in place when the school doors open in the Fall.

May 1, 2004 By the Numbers As of April 23, 2004, SchoolCARE has $160,000 available for the next school year, up $65,000 during one month, due primarily to the efforts of the Phonathons. But we’re still well short of the $280,000 raised for the current school year. This year, SchoolCARE is funding reading specialists and library services at elementary schools; electives, counseling and library services and more at middle school; and several elective courses, student services, athletic director, 10th grade writing coaches, and more at Albany High School. These items and more are under consideration for next year -- and without SchoolCARE these simply will not be available for our students.

October 7, 2003 Reflecting the deep commitment of this community to preserve education in Albany, SchoolCARE in September presented to the Albany Board of Education the following offers of funding for the 2003-2004 school year. We have worked exceedingly hard with the stakeholders -- including teachers, parents, and administrators -- at the sites and with all three superintendents. Wed like to thank them all for their efforts. Extra money, while generally a good thing, requires extra work to steward it effectively. We greatly appreciate the cooperative efforts on behalf of Albany students. (Note: FTE=Full Time Equivalent) Elementary: total
FTE = 1.5 0.3 FTE Librarian Middle School:

happy to note that we expect to be back with additional offers of funding.
As in the past, weve come to the school board as soon as possible
with one completed round of allocations and well continue to work
with the staff to finish the process. July 17, 2003 Incredible Fundraising Progress SchoolCARE has received over $275,000 in donations, not counting any "matching funds" from PTAs. Wow! The outpouring of support from the community of Albany is especially welcome in these extremely challenging economic times. Volunteers at the Phonathons, at the Open Houses in May and at other community events have kept the SchoolCARE name and needs in the forefront of everyone's minds. Allocations As always, the funds are being allocated across the elementary, middle and high school sites in accordance with the needs they've identified at each site. All the sites have had a harder time establishing their priorities this year in this uncertain climate. Needs have continued to shift somewhat, and the lack of commitment from the state has slowed the direction of site-council funds. Even the PTAs have been more hesitant to formalize their budgets until the pieces have fallen into place. Priorities from the Sites Priorities for SchoolCARE allocations (not including programs or services being picked up by other funding sources, such as site council, AMF, Title I funds or PTA) are: Elementary: Reading
Specialist, Library and/or ESL.
May 5, 2003 Fundraising Progress As of 4/8/03, SchoolCARE has $109K contributions to date; up $30K since mid March, due primarily to the efforts of the Phonathons. Helped
