Dear Albany family,
The school year is coming to a close, and the news is in: our teachers, staff and kids still need your support. Will you support them?
While Proposition 30 will get us a little more funding per student for the 2013-2014 school year, we are clearly not out of the woods.
We need you more than ever. Turns out that we need to raise $25,000 by June 4 in order to promise the district similar funding to last year. We know that over the next two weeks we can meet this challenge with your help.
School funding has been cut statewide since 2008. Albany, which had a $37 million annual budget, has endured cuts averaging $4 million each year since. During this current school year, in order to avoid teacher layoffs, the School Board is drawing on financial reserves to cover a $1.2 million deficit.
While Governor Jerry Brown has proposed restoring school funding over the next seven years, starting with approximately $200 per student next year, this neither eliminates Albany’s deficit nor does it get us back to 2008. This is just one small step.
We at SchoolCARE are not ready to give up. We need your help to continue to do what we do best: help AUSD
continue to support all of our children by funding vital teachers and staff at every Albany school.
Will you support SchoolCARE?
With your help, we can continue to fund people – equitably across the district – since we are the only school fundraising organization paying for people such as teachers, counselors, librarians and aides, who work with students during the regular school day.
To reach our goal, we need 25 people to donate $1,000, or 50 people to donate $500 or 100 people to donate $250. Any donation you make counts today and will go directly into supporting your children and the teachers and staff who support them for the 2013-2014 school year.
Please, join others in Albany and help SchoolCARE raise $25,000 by June 4. If you have already donated to SchoolCARE, thank you. If you've been meaning to donate, there is no better time than today. Thank you for joining us and for supporting our schools. To us, there is no better investment (and yes, we’re partial).
With gratitude,
Yael Bloom
